A Brief History of Lake Aurora
Lake Aurora - A Brief History
in 1963 the State of Alabama and the Army Corps of Engineers created Aurora Lake for water conservation and flood control. The land would remain in State control for 30 years with public access. When the 30 years expired the land and the lake would go back to the landowner. Then it was subdivided into tracts under “Bristow Cove Estates” and divided into 4 phases of development. The lake was closed during development period and opened in 1993 upon completion. The dam remains under Etowah County for maintenance and upkeep. The boat launch and dam remain under Bristow Cove Estates’ control.
